How to Play Live Blackjack
Blackjack is a casino staple because of its enjoyability, compartmentalized in a card game. To win, you need a hand value that’s as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it while remaining higher than the dealer’s. Here’s how to play Live Blackjack.
Live Blackjack: The Basics
Upon opening a Live Blackjack game, take your seat at the table. Use the chip tray displayed to place your bets. Once you’ve placed your bet and clicked the ‘Deal’ button, wait until other players have finished.
The dealer deals two cards for everyone including themselves. All cards are face-up except for the dealer’s second card which is kept hidden. Add the values of your initial cards to calculate the total. The value of each card is as follows:
- Ace (A) → 1/11. Aces can either be 1 or 11 depending on the player’s prerogative.
- 2-9 → 2-9, respectively.
- 10/Jack/Queen/King → 10.
- Ace (A) → 1/11.
If the Banker’s revealed card is an Ace, players can place insurance bets. An insurance bet pays 2 to 1 if the dealer’s second card is a 10, forming a Blackjack. Once all insurance bets have been made, the dealer checks their second card. If it’s a 10, the insured bet/s win. Otherwise, the game continues. If the dealer’s face-up card wasn’t an Ace, they don’t check the hidden card until the end of the game.
If your two opening cards produce a 21 or a Blackjack, you automatically win and are paid 3 to 1.
Going around the table, players can ‘hit’ or ‘stand’. To ‘hit’ gives an additional card to increase your total. Going above 21 is an automatic forfeit. To ‘stand’ is to stick with your cards.
Some games offer a double down or split. You can split your two cards if their value is the same (note: a Queen and King cannot split). Doing this doubles your bet and hand for two opportunities to win. You can double down if your initial total is 9-11. Doing this doubles your bet and gives 1 card.
Once all players are satisfied, the dealer reveals their second card. If the dealer had a higher total than yours, you lose. Otherwise, you win. A tie returns your bet. You can then re-bet, double, or leave the table.
